What if independent social networks were no longer synonymous with loneliness? This article is both an invitation to debate and a call to action. Can't wait to read your thoughts and please share!

Sense8 and ActivityPub: what if everything was connected?

Sense8 cancelled by Netflix despite 500,000 mobilized fans. What if this series was an allegory of the Fediverse? An immense potential. Not yet fully exploited.

@novafuture thank you, your article is mighty interesting to me. Somehow I managed to skip by Sense8 recommended to me by Netflix many times 😢

There are certain philosophies that when elaborated by different parties independently, lead to highly powerful, profound insights - showing a way forward to progress and #prosperity - which when followed through lead to very similar but very unorthodox approaches. There is a universal wisdom and logic to tap into, where things get closer to #Nature and natural forces.

None of the ideas are new, the wisdom is on the street while we trample on it, on our rushed day to day. I sense (pun intended) a deep alignment to what I'm doing, and where thinking in the article ventures.

Social coding commons is based on a simple life philosophy - eternal teaser at https://innercircles.community - which ultimately won't have to be taught to spread. It just needs to be experienced. It's based on making people realize the power of #Humanity by wielding ones virtues.

@smallcircles Thanks for your kind message :-) Yeah, you absolutely have to watch Sense8 :-) Wow! I don't know what you're working on with Innercircles, but it's totally breaking all the rules! I love it! Please keep us updated!

@novafuture I did see Sky Atlas which I really liked.

Btw. I call it 'eternal teaser' since the intent is there will never be more at that url. It should not be needed, and is something long-term even timeless in any case.

More concretely I am working (in 'hobby time' still atm) on Social coding commons and Social experience design, see https://coding.social/blog/reimagine-social

How We Reimagine the Social Web

We find novel ways to collaborate and create value together.

Social coding commons
@smallcircles Thanks for the link! It's so great to discover you have a real vision for the indie web. From what I've read, I completely agree with your point of view. Your project is very ambitious, which is a good thing. Funnily enough we might already be doing some of what you describe, would love to exchange on that!

@novafuture I think so too, and that it is a natural alignment that flows from exploring these universal principles.

In this case 'ambitious' isn't the right word, though. Only when thought about in the old system perhaps, but a failure condition for the new. For something to be ambitious there must be a definition of success. But the scope is unbounded, so that is impossible. Because we all can't give more than just our 2 cents. Instead there's the Mindfulness core principle which only values progress, however small. This eliminates the need for success, while failure is a learning experience, also progress. The rest is timelessness, there are no expectations.

@smallcircles I think we're in an extremely difficult time for progressive movements, being devoured by capitalism. And I believe the only way out is to build bridges between indie projects. How would you see a bridge between NovaFuture and Social coding commons?

@novafuture

> So why do we still end up with infinite scrolling that doesn’t lead anywhere? Why do we end up chasing boosts and favorites just like on corporate social networks? Why does trending always push the same big accounts? Why do most users passively consume instead of creating, sharing, and exchanging?

...huh?

oh, you're on dot social. maybe that explains it.

@novafuture

> The Fediverse has trending. That’s good, knowing what’s trending matters. You find solid stuff there. But trending is the opposite of random. Trending on its own only amplifies what already exists.

when you say "Fediverse" here, you seem to be talking about The Mastodon Networkâ„¢.

I've never once used Eugen's crappy trending feature, but I've been on ActivityPub since 2017.

the entire premise of this article seems weird, I don't experience fedi like it suggests at all.

@deutrino Thanks for your feedback. If your experience doesn't match what's described, it's probably because the author intentionally started from a beginner's user experience. That explains it.

@novafuture yeah, and I didn't mean to be snarky, it's just so wildly different from my experience where fedi is vastly more nourishing & engaging than every other "social media" I've been on apart from BBSes and Tumblr.

fedi also wasn't lonely for me at the start because in 2017, as a heavy Tumblr user I was used to having to poke around and find cool people. that idea doesn't click for many noobs detoxing from corporate networks in 2026, and more intentional discovery features would be great.

@novafuture I still think a domain-specific language for writing pluggable discovery algorithms and feed-remixing algorithms which could then be shared among users and/or published in an algorithm smorgasbord would be an amazing feature for fedi platforms, been saying that for like 8 years but too preoccupied with life problems to develop such a thing.
@deutrino That's cool, you understood that we had a constructive approach :-) Indeed, setting up a proper discovery system is work. But not that much. After all, we're just Mastodon users. But if several of us start requesting this feature, maybe it will get the Mastodon developers moving?
@novafuture I'm personally at a short-final point in my path to stepping away from Mastodon and toward other ActivityPub software with my various fedi projects (just about done shuffling selfhosting resources around, buying domains etc) because I haven't liked how Mastodon development goes for a long time, but I will say that with the recent organizational changes, it might be a pretty good time to try. success will likely take a good number of voices and a high frustration tolerance though.
@deutrino Personally, I still believe Mastodon is a good alternative. But you have to take it for what it is: microblogging with its limitations. However, it's a good entry point to the Fediverse. Would you like to tell us more about your projects?
