I hate airports. And especially ones which do not explicitly state what type of security control you’re going to get. I want to be organised and not cause an issue. Because it stresses me out.

Düsseldorf Airport has stressed me out beyond belief. And I am feeling deeply anxious and stressed out now. And have two flights to get through before I go to bed.

@Kilometer780
Airport security is a large part of the Situational Anxiety I get at airports.
I've had meltdowns at airports in the past, and therapy has uncovered the reasons for it, but knowing the causes and how to medicate for it isn't everything.

I use a Sunflower Lanyard but that didn't stop a shouty security operative at Heathrow last year.

My wife uses special assistance due to her walking difficulties so at least we don't have the horrible queues.

It doesn't need to be so dreadful, surely?

@MikeFromLFE Oh definitely. Doesn’t need to be dreadful, and a bit of sympathy and humour helps.

Today at Heathrow? Absolutely fine. Security and gate staff been absolutely fantastic. When I went out from Manchester this trip and the last one before, the security staff were also great.

The Sunflower Lanyard scheme hasn’t really been a big thing in Germany: you see isolated pockets of it. But nowhere near as much of a take up as in the UK.

One reason I use the Harwich Hook ferry is because it is so much more relaxed for boarding, alighting and security. I think that’ll be the option for my next trip to Europe.

@Kilometer780
We love the Harwich ferry route.
Generally used it one way on almost all of our recent European trips.
The one-a-day train links nicely at Cambridge for the service to Leicester via Peterborough (we made the mistake of going via London last time).
The ferry removes the aggravation of St Pancras outbound and Paris inbound to the UK.

@Kilometer780 I particularly hate it where they *do* explicitly state it... and the information is wrong.

I queued for security at one where all the signage, screens and posters were really adamant you had to take everything out of your bag, then when you got to the front they shouted at you to leave everything inside.

@Kilometer780 I have to go through DUS in a couple of weeks, and I'm not looking forward to it. I understand it's the pilot site for fingerprinting, right? Was it a nightmare?
