Just got this from Microslop GitHub:

> We're updating how GitHub uses data to improve AI-powered coding tools. From April 24 onward, your interactions with GitHub Copilot—including inputs, outputs, code snippets, and associated context—may be used to train and enhance AI models unless you opt out.

I barely ever use GitHub. When I do, it's when I am forced to because some project I rely on only uses GitHub.

If your project is only using GitHub, please consider migrating.

@rysiek got the same. Important extra bit:

If you previously opted out of the setting allowing GitHub to collect this data for product improvements, your preference has been retained— your choice is preserved, and your data will not be used for training unless you opt in.

It's still stinky, but less so than you made it seem.

I can confirm my opt-out was still in-effect, for what that's worth.

@rysiek @draeath Maybe it's because I was an early adopt-out-er and they changed how the settings work in the meantime 🤷

That's one thing Mozilla definitely finally did right (aside from the topic whether they should offer an AI bot chat panel in the first place): An AI off-switch that includes all possible future features. Set it and forget it, reliably.

@gunchleoc @draeath I'm going to hold off on the "reliably" part until a few years pass and we see it not being randomly flipped or ignored.
