A landmark finding! Guilty of making money at the known and exploited readiness to become addicted.

Jury recommends Google and Meta pay $6m damages in landmark social media addiction lawsuit.

@NicelyManifest Here's how this is going to play out. Meta and Google will appeal and it will eventually get to the Supreme Court and Trump's puppets there will reverse the decision.

I have zero confidence that what's right will prevail in this country anymore.

@mlanger Most likely. Far too much lobbying power.

BUT ... it is now out in the open. That they INTENTIONALLY and KNOWINGLY forge apps to maximise profit at mental health cost to most users.

@NicelyManifest According to one court. The only thing that really matters is the appeals decision. It sucks, but it's a fact of life.
@NicelyManifest Also, was that ever in doubt? Everyone with a brain who knows how to use it can see the addictive nature of social media. Whether it's for a dopamine hit or a way to participate in a community, it sucks us all in.
@mlanger True but it is how the agenda became maximal exploitation. Not casual or incidental. But exploitative.

@NicelyManifest But aren’t so many things these days exploitative?

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not defending it. I think we need to go into these things with open, educated minds. But that’s another thing that doesn’t seem possible these days. Keep us dumb, herd us like sheep to slaughter.

@mlanger What other things came to mind?
