Decades ago, I’d read books like “Soul of a New Machine” and “Showstopper!” as romances, about late nights and impossible tasks and the ability to will something into existence using just brains and caffeine.

It took me far too long to recognize that they were actually warnings.

microsoft was, in my opinion, the first high tech company to turn evil. so in 1998 or so i abandoned the windows ecosystem for alternatives. now, every single high tech company is evil. there are no moral alternatives remaining. assuming you don’t want to go live in a shack in the woods, you have to get into bed with several of these shitbag companies.

i am for sure not feeling so great about myself or the world these days.
