Bit of a left-field PSA this, but… if you own an iPhone/iPad in the UK and:

- you DON'T own a credit card
- you DON'T have a driving license
- you have NOT had your Apple account for more than 18 years

…don't upgrade to iOS 26.4 if you want to install (or some cases, use) 17+ rated apps or stream 18+ films/tv on itvX, netflix, etc.

The update adds mandatory OS-level age verification to meet UK law and Apple doesn't currently accept passports (!) to prove age.

#Apple #iOS26

@omgubuntu the final, most concrete and tech loyalist agnostic reason to never buy an apple device and wow, it's a big one

I know google will likely do this too but at least you don't need an account, have more control of the updates and can freeze/remove play services on android devices

@viralobscurity @omgubuntu I think it's also time to focus on mobile Linux distributions like postmarketOS, mobian, etc.

I feel like with the recent Google changes that Android might really close off its source sooner or later, or bring other complications.

Some in that space aren't helping either.

Believe it or not, GrapheneOS (open source Android fork) is actually trying to argue that an iPhone is better than Linux mobile in terms of privacy, security and so on. I don't understand how a black box can compare to a fully trustable operating system.

We're better off supporting operating systems we can trust.

@f @omgubuntu Definitely preaching to the converted here

A Linux mobile device would be my ideal solution but I did hear there is some way to go on delivering a daily driver Linux phone

I am definitely one of the people that would switch to Linux once I could do everything I need on there
