But playing devil’s advocate: Mastodon followers likely understand development costs and want to support developers, am less certain about general public.
Also, BigTech uses differential pricing across countries. For example, in India, $50 can get 2 years of Apple One, ~3 years of Prime, or ~2.5 years of evil video site premium which is significantly cheaper than what you get elsewhere.
