Can anyone explain to me why they are bombing oil ports while the world is having an energy crisis? Ukraine struck Russia's oil ports and what exactly is the strategy here?

My country declared National Energy Crisis and I just want to understand.

@neuronakaya mostly to limit the aggressors income in case of Russia. As for Iran, no clue honestly.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/russias-march-oil-gas-revenues-expected-fall-52-year-on-year-2026-03-17/ for instance: Russia is fairly dependant on oil sales for their national budget, but the lack of option to move it and the sanctions with maximum pricing are hampering the ability to continue the war.

Now, a conspiracy theorist might say bombing middle east oil and gas infrastructure is done to help Russia make more from their oil. But that goes into politics and unproven theories that a certain president is a russian puppet.

@neuronakaya Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 and the war is still ongoing. Millions of people have died. Ukraine attacks the things Russia needs to continue this war: military airports, ammunitions factories, oil infrastructure.

@drgroftehauge

Due to the war in the Middle East, we get our oil from Russia. My country is doing this to save its citizens. Ukraine destroys the oil ports of Russia, but it's other nations that suffer. :(

Russian oil arrives as Philippines battles 'energy emergency'

@neuronakaya Russia can end the war but chooses not to. Ukraine can't. Russia even signed a treaty in 1995 saying that they wouldn't start the war. Philippines, Ukraine, and Russia is suffering because of Russia.
@drgroftehauge I know Russia is the aggressor. I think we should blame Trump also. The conflict in the Middle East caused this global energy crisis, so now other nations are getting their oil from Russia. We are all in survival mode.

@neuronakaya @drgroftehauge

Ukraine also does what it needs to save its citizens.

The Russian war will be over when one side is unable to provide enough soldiers and material for the frontline. Since oil revenue is the main income of Russia, higher oil prices allow it to sustain the fight longer. More money means more weapons.

The oil to the Philippines comes from the Russian far east, out of Ukrainian reach. So the attacks will not affect these shipments, only exports to Europe.

@neuronakaya @drgroftehauge

The attacks however decrease the total amount of oil on the market and thus driving the prices. This prices out the most vulnerable (and also drives up Russion revenue from the far eastern exports).

@echozebra @drgroftehauge this is the issue. We can't blame other countries as they're only acting on their national interests like they have no choice but to buy oil from Russia (or even China). As if this was all orchestrated to benefit Russia idk

@neuronakaya @drgroftehauge

Russia will not be happy to see its ally Iran weakened, even when it benefits from the oil price hike. The war was started about regional domination in the middle east as well as leadership issues, but it puts a lot of states in a difficult position. So I blame nobody for buying Russian.
