Never went there, but I've heard of more people leaving there than going.

@cyberjunkie yeah, I noticed a number of articles about LLM related products, but I didn't feel it was in any way unbalanced in favour of AI.
I'm beginning to feel like I might be in an echo chamber here on Mastodon given the staunch anti-AI sentiment.
I'm not a huge fan of AI myself, but I'm less of a fan of echo chambers.
@cyberjunkie you've got some sympathy over there it seems..
@pfr My personal experience is that it's run by a bunch of techbros and vulture capitalists, and they heavily censored the comments whenever anyone was critical of the VC sphere, crypto/AI stuff, and patriarchy in general. They (the owners) claimed to be FOSS friendly but their moderation of the site proved otherwise. I quit visiting there many years ago so it may be better now.
I did try to get an invitation to lobste.rs a while back as it seems to be more FOSS friendly, but I was told I wasn't important enough/smart enough to get an invite since I'm not a software developer.
it was so long ago I forgot who I asked for the invite from. Thanks for the offer!@pfr one of the most heavily moderated sites on the internet full of people who complain about how the internet is too moderated.
But in all seriousness the Orange Site is where I have found really interesting articles, blogs, and topics. It’s a bubble of mostly techbros so despite most discussions these days being ridiculous, it’s a good way to get out of my bubble and see alternative views without having to like use 4chan. It’s getting less and less worth it to visit though.
@pfr It's the only site I've seen active discussions on gut bacteria 😂 Seriously. I think this shows that the techbro archetype often dominates.
I do value some topics near the edge of HN's bubble. For example, you'll find good discussions on topics about the BSDs if you catch it early enough before the Linux crowd starts to dominate.
