Some days are really tough, and this definitely is one of them. My dear friend John Martellaro passed away today. John is one of the smartest people I've ever met and had the kind of resumé most of us can only dream of. He was an astrophysicist. He worked for NASA.

1/4

He was a US Air Force Captain. He worked for Apple. He's the guy behind the space shuttle landing simulator I played on an Apple II. He also wrote fantastic analysis pieces and interviewed wonderfully interesting people for his podcast back when we worked together at The Mac Observer.

2/4

He wrote for a lot of Apple-centric publications over the years, too, so in reality we all lost John.

I'll miss our wonderful conversations, eating pizza with John and his wife while we sorted out some tech issue he decided I was more qualified to solve than him, and laughing together.

If we're all here to make a difference, John was an overachiever. He definitely put a dent in the universe in the best possible way. Farewell, my friend. The stars don't seem quite as bright now that you're gone.

@jgamet Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry to hear this.
@jgamet I’m very sorry to hear about John. I always enjoyed hearing him as a guest on TDO. He was a good one and will be missed.
@bcanedy I always loved having him on. Fun behind the scenes trivia: He always tried to get me to say the wrong date at the beginning of the show and took great delight in the few times it worked. He’d laugh and laugh.
@jgamet Aw, dang. I am sorry 😞
@jgamet sorry you lost your good friend Jeff.
