I came across this blog discussing “calm home automation”. I realised my home automations so far have indeed been making my life calmer and more relaxed. I am now inspired to specifically focus on #calmAutomation.

One obvious one is use of dimmer lighting where possible.

Rather than having a light suddenly switch on as you enter a room, mine goes from dimmer to brighter. Less of a shock.

Since I live on my own, it’s nice to have the house talk to me occasionally. I get greeted when I walk in. The arrival of my girlfriend is announced as she drives up.

To help my executive function, house tells me when to get ready for bed. It tells me when the washing is done and keeps reminding me every 5 minutes until I hang the washing. It then reminds me to bring the washing in once it has dried.

It bids me good night and good morning and tells me if it is leaving the air con running overnight on hot nights.

Still to add is running the noisy fan in the bathroom only when necessary and ideally when I am not in the room.
