The machine keeps explaining it's features as the monster dimembers and eats it.
When it is all consumed, you can still faintly hear it talking.
That's when the monster, to it's horror, learns that the machine is a bomb. Which blows up...
Paul Drye@nyrath @GIFS_of_Puppets Henson was fond of this sketch and did it no less than four times. The 1967 Ed Sullivan version had a different monster (resembling the future Cookie Monster, but green). It also didn't explode after.
Then he did a "green Cookie and the machine explodes" version for an IBM training film in 1968.
This screenshot is one from the Muppet Show in 1977. The purple Muppet here was the major change.
Finally, he reprised the 1977 version in 1987, for another training film.
I am Not 100% sure I saw this in the Ed Sullivan show. But I do remember the monster screaming "oh NOOO!!!" before exploding.
@nyrath @GIFS_of_Puppets The two versions with the Green monster are really similar apart from the exploding punchline, so you may well have seen the Sullivan one and then the other one at a later point and just figured they were the same one.
