Seriously, though, in territories where car ownership rates are high, the quantity of energy supplied as motor fuel is often comparable to or even larger than that supplied as electricity. That's not a problem you can hand-wave for very long. It means massive investments in transmission and distribution as well as new generation. And that takes time.
