I have literally been waiting for the first crewed Orion mission for 21 years

alternate timeline Winter in 2026 watching Constellation 16 make the first Ceres landing or some shit
@winter where do those go
@fiore @winter the moon, in theory
@dangerdyke @winter oh and like . whats the point of the missions
@fiore @winter to do more moon science and in theory if they get the funding (lol, lmao) build a moonbase
@dangerdyke @winter i thougjt elon and jeff were gonna do that ….
@fiore @winter jeff is regretably probably gonna end up making the lander, elon was too busy k-holing to even try
@fiore @dangerdyke I could literally talk about this for hours
@winter @dangerdyke oh i bet , and i love it
@fiore @dangerdyke this mission is really interesting since it’s the first crewed flight of the Orion the new most advanced and capable spacecraft in service today (China may well change that soon but for now) which they have been developing for 25 years through two failed programs it was intended for and on the smallest budget congress can get away with paying them, they trickled drop by drop the development of a new translunar spacecraft and super-heavy launch vehicle to completion some fucking how that’s NASA for you, they play the long game, they have the 50 year plan, if they get funding and autonomy they cannot be stopped, the state fears them, the power of the spacelings, the spectre of newtypes, the fear of being left behind to die on the planet they killed, but nothing will stop Artemis 2 Fiore that lesbian will transition to translunar space
@fiore @dangerdyke as for what the mission actually does, it will enter a high orbit for one day (an orbit exactly 24 hours long) and then perform the best spaceflight maneuver there is Translunar Injection, and in four days travel to the Moon, enter the Lunar sphere of influence, flyby the farside of the Moon not seen with human eyes since 1972, and return to Earth in four days on a free return trajectory, meanwhile validating and testing everything this spacecraft can do
@winter @dangerdyke the far side of the moon .. thats where the cia keeps their super secret base… careful..
@winter @fiore @dangerdyke Finally, there will be injected trans on the moon
@fiore the MOON :Moon2258LastQuarter: Translunar Space
@fiore now with: GIRLS
@winter aetherglow moment ..
@fiore (only one per mission though )
@fiore but a Girl is finally going to translunar space, as g-ddess intended
@fiore Christina Koch is gonna be in history books alongside Valentina Tereshkova and Sally Ride, well maybe not as important in the eyes of history as whatever girl will make the first girl Moon landing but at least as much as the Apollo 8 crew
@fiore what a legendary astronaut, this is only her second spaceflight and it’s a Lunar mission, the first ever by a girl, and her first mission was 328 days in space, part of it with her Very Good Friend astronaut Jessica Meir (who is Tragically not on Artemis II but is in space currently on the International Space Station, they will be in space together a second time but on different spacecraft in different spheres of influence ) who she did the first all Girl spacewalk with, Expedition 61 there has not been such a good ISS Expedition before or since, and Christina went back to her home planet before Jessica because her mission started sooner, but then she had time to recover from spaceflight and go see Jessica as soon as she got back, they’re just very good friends and so heterosexual for each other  I hope I have convinced you of my OTP
@fiore Jessica deserves a Lunar landing mission but really Anne McClain should get the first one small step for a girl, being the only out lesbian astronaut in the world today and on Artemis crew rotation
@fiore but Jessica Meir would also be the first Jew on the Moon and it’s about damn time really
@winter oh you have . oh my oh my
