You just got forced into data collection on GitHub. Turn it off here https://github.com/settings/copilot/features
@Aurimas I also got the notification about this. Strange enough for me it was disabled despite the notification saying I need to opt-out 🤷‍♂️

FYI this only applies to Copilot, not any other interactions. If you don't use Copilot nothing changes, and if you were already opted out that preference will carry over even though its scope has massively widened. Very shitty to make this opt-out instead of opt-in and hide behind "established industry practices" as your justification. https://github.blog/news-insights/company-news/updates-to-github-copilot-interaction-data-usage-policy/

@britter @Aurimas Yay, EU data protection laws. 😉
@Aurimas What the actual hell. Thanks!
@Aurimas From context, it seems to be about AI usage only, but with MSFT you never know how they’ll spin it, so probably a good idea
@Aurimas thanks. I turned it off and disabled copilot
@Aurimas Thanks for the heads up.

@Aurimas Thank you for posting that link. I removed everything from github some months ago when the former CEO resigned and Microslop took over. Codeberg.org is serving me just fine.

Meanwhile, it's nice to turn this shit off, just in case.

@Aurimas The drop down is also very disingenuous: Getting your data stolen is a feature now.
@Aurimas Is this a thing if you don't use Copylot? I don't want to get opted into it trying to opt out of something that's not even there if I'm not using it.
@dalias copilot is on by default too as far as I can tell. I had to turn it off.
@Aurimas I'm pretty sure it's not for me. I rejected it way back when it was first introduced.
@Aurimas for me this was the drop to delete my account and switch to codeberg.
@Aurimas Or even better - ditch GitHub for good

@Aurimas
i'd been planning to get my stuff off github for a while. I don't really use it anymore. This gave me the final push.

i deleted my stuff, then I deleted my account.

A full "opt-out".

@Aurimas I appreciate the info, but you work at Google. How can you justify that while caring about invasive data collection?
