What do you do when you reach that point in your work life where all your energy gets sucked into doing managerial things, but all you really want to do is to be knee-deep in hands-on-stuff. And while your rather unhappy with the situation, you're trying to tell yourself you at least might be making a difference for the staff you're responsible for, as they're much smarter & better at the hands-on stuff and you help create an atmosphere for them to do just that.

@mickylindlar I don't think the importance of a solid manager can be emphasized enough! Setting direction, creating room for your staff and shielding them from all the managerial logistics is invaluable. I have a feeling it is a draining burden for all specialists who have climbed into a managerial role through competence though...
