Got an email from a business analyst about my use of some open source software we have. Now, I don't use it. It's kinda rubbish (it's "very open-source-brackets-derogatory").

But, also, it's FOSS. There'll be a server cost to hosting it, sure, but I struggle to believe that this cost is anything but a rounding error on the heinous quantities of money undoubtedly being thrown at AI. And if the licence for the proprietary equivalent was yanked, I'd rather have it as an option even if it is shit.

If I was feeling extra spicy, I'd say that £-for-£ we probably get more educational benefit of it sitting on a server being used by all of two people in an obscure CS module than we do having a Vice Chancellor.
