In the land of Tennessee, people are homeless. People are unemployed. People are dying of chronic illness. Folks are dying because of the negligence of their leaders. And all the government can care about is transgender
I volunteer at a food pantry at my university.
One of the most popular items is baby food. Baby food.
@burnoutqueen Same with the colleges & universities here. Always a need for baby food.
@PhoenixSerenity I think it's a little bit absurd that people essentially rely on charitable donations to feed their kids
@PhoenixSerenity there is always room for our politicians to go after people like me, but not enough room to give women and their babies food to eat.
@burnoutqueen It's another reason that I work hard on building more local food security & food equity.
@PhoenixSerenity the government is all eager to "protect women" and "help our own" until it comes to actually helping poor USAians and protecting women from starvation and a lack of access to period products.
@PhoenixSerenity food pantries are a testament to the failure of our society to take care of people. What corpos do is essentially dump all the stale food and overflow stock they have on churches and universities that are manned by unpaid volunteer work.

@burnoutqueen Yes. There's too much food waste still happening, while poor hungry folks are starving.

I'm lucky to live in a place that actively creates community initiatives that reduce food waste to increase local food security. We have many different food rescue organizations, all across the city. Most of us work together to ensure foods are given to hungry folks all across the city. We rely a lot on volunteers & grants/donations to keep doing food rescue/lower food waste.

@burnoutqueen My approach is to keep fighting the government for future changes, while actively working with others to build more alternative community sharing systems.
