I really appreciate folks working on Plasma Mobile though, this is really comfy (pretty much my daily-driver now)

(Yes, I still need to fix internal audio, wifi and cameras, but they’re not deal-breakers for me especially since I can use bluetooth in the meantime)

Since people keep asking, this is running on: https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Xiaomi_Mi_9_Lite_(xiaomi-pyxis)

@elly how did you get a steam desktop entry to work?
@weirdtreething --network=host -i --user user elly/games:latest /usr/sbin/FEXBash steam
@elly I also liked plasma mobile more than phosh and gnome-mobile so far. Probably because the UX feels more familiar because it is sometimes pretty close to Android
@tobhe Same here, I simply dislike Gnome, Phosh, Lomiri and Sailfish for the fact it messes with muscle memory and changes how the entire phone works. Plasma on the other hand feels familiar if you used any mobile OS released in the past 15 years (no matter if it was iOS, Android or Symbian).

Lomiri (Ubuntu Touch), Sailfish and Phosh/Gnome has the same issue of trying to re-invent the wheel with system navigation and that's why I just gave up trying to use them. This isn't anything personal, just the way they chose to do navigation doesn't sit well with me (and you from what I can tell)
@elly This 6 screen phone setup seems a little crazy though
@elly Z.A.T.O. mentioned!
@elly I take it you like the world (at least, from the picture of Ira and Marina).
@Ertain Ira, Marina and Asya :D
Hopefully googles BS gets them extra contributors
@elly i enjoyed using pmos+plasma before on a pinephone, what hardware are you running it on?
@elly yeah @plasmamobile is killer. I have been using it for... It has been so long, I am not sure even. 2019, so 7 years maybe. It was my daily driver for both my school tablets. (Both tablets still run it, but I finished school with them 😎.)
@elly wait... mBank, a banking app, works on PostmarketOS?
@vitSkalicky using waydroid, but yes! I'd like to get NFC working within a container for:
- Authorizing operations on government websites (requires scanning your ID with NFC and punching in the code)
- Contactless payments (local banks offer NFC payments without depending on GSF)
@elly I really gotta try plasma mobile again. The last time I tried it a year ago it didn't really work that well for me
@elly can't wait to do any of that when my Zinwa Q25 arrives

@elly

@espidev is my own personal hero, even though we've barely ever even talked. Everyone working on Plasma Mobile has done an amazing job with so little beyond the strong fundamentals of Plasma Desktop, though.

#PlasmaMobile #KDE #Plasma

@espidev @Blort I'm still sad that I missed @bshah at FOSDEM. I wanted to troll him by giving him a banana (related to Project Banana in case someone doesn't get the joke)
@elly @bshah @espidev @Blort I walked past him 😎😎😎😎😎

@elly

Seeing mBank here is so cursed

@elly what phone model are you using?
elly (@[email protected])

@ratsprite xiaomi-pyxis

@pomagarnet I totally scrolled by this multiple times and didn't see it lol. Tyvm!
@pomagarnet oh wow Elly is the maintainer for this phone too this is neat. I had no idea. I might have to get my hands on one of these! I desperately want to use Linux on my main phone without buying a librem phone

@elly

I haven't heard about that yet.

Is it a full mobile OS based on AOSP or "just" a Launcher?

@karb it's a linux phone. postmarketos. looks like waydroid (full lineageos in an lxc container, iirc) to support android apps.
@pomagarnet @karb this, it's NOT android. This phone is running Linux kernel 6.18.5 with KDE Plasma Mobile

@elly Uuuh, cool. I just installed pmOS on a phone a few days ago. Currently WiFi is the bane of my existence with it, I hope I can get that working somewhat stable, otherwise itβ€˜s pretty neat.

It looks like you have some Android apps on there, what did you use to install those and how well do they work?

@jana waydroid, pretty well
@elly This is starting to look real attractive.
@elly Would love to de-solder the ethernet port on a Pi and build a custom phone running Plasma Mobile. Think it's time I got around to this.
