#TIL about wireless community networks and cantenna

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantenna

basically groups set up a mesh network around their area to break from ISPs. and a cantenna uses a can to extend the range of a connection

pretty neat! looks like these groups are in major cities all around the globe :)

Wireless community network - Wikipedia

the problem with free mesh networks are that itll burden those who provide them. maybe set up a payment system to pay people to forward ur traffic?

eg. pay a small amt (crypto?) to relay(s) and a bigger amt to an end node

- relays expand usable network
- end nodes connect to the internet
- $ adds incentive to grow

i wish ios and android wifi subsystems were more open. these mesh groups would benefit from telling people to “install an app and get/share internet”
