A couple years ago, I gave a CLE (continuing legal education) talk on what it's like to practice law whilst trans and how cis lawyers can respectfully interact with trans colleagues. All of the cis women were pleasant and many asked good faith questions whilst seemingly earnestly wanting to learn.
The men, however, were different. All were both cis and white, because this is the practice of law. One asked me why trans people aren't willing to wait until after "you've won hearts and minds" before "expecting to be allowed to practice law."
Two asked how it was fair to cis women to litigate against trans women and unironically asked if I thought trans women had an unfair advantage in court proceedings over cis women. One said they thought being trans could be a sign of mental instability.

And one asked why I couldn't just be trans at home to avoid "unnecessary disruption."

I think about this often.
