What do you feel when a loved one reads your work?

Nerves.

I rarely write my own work with my friends or loved ones in mind as future readers. Mainly because both of my parents were harsh (and knowlegable) critics so I know that personal relationships can be muddied by critique.

I do have an extremely supportive aunt who is an enthusiastic fan and I've grown comfortable over the years sharing my work with her and her spouse. But, she's a wonderful exception.

All of this to say, mostly I'm happy if they want to read my work or enjoy my art but I'm hesitant to actually involve my social circle in my writing because it gives me more freedom to not imagine them as future readers.

I do however write lots of letters and have written things with loved ones as the intended audience. I enjoy sharing my creativity with them but I like having some work where I don't feel that pressure.
