Woohoo, I'm now hosting a weekly repair cafe at Principles GI Coffee House in Brooklyn: http://principlesbk.nyc

Does anyone who has hosted some have advice for things to do when starting out like what tools to bring for the first day or how to manage expectations when someone brings something that i definitely cannot fix?

#Brooklyn #NYC #repaircafe

@gbargoud I am not sure what this is and I like it very much

@jmac

Basically I will be posted at a table in the back of the cafe with a bunch of tools and if you bring something broken we will try fixing it together

@gbargoud
Is that person hammering a pair of jeans? πŸ˜ΉπŸ’™ Love it.

@superball

I never promised the repairs will be successful

@gbargoud you'll either have way too many tools or not the one you need, if not both.

The diagnostic tools needed for our local Linux install clinic have shifted over the years. I usually take every video adapter I've found and a portable flat HDMI display, spare keyboard, external CD/DVD drive, USB drive preloaded with Ventoy (usually with gparted iso, maybe some rescue isos, as well as install images).

@Boston_PM

Thanks, I think I will pack a live USB, needles and thread, some glue, and some multitools for the first one and adjust it week over week.

The coffee shop I'm doing this at has a well stocked bike repair corner so I don't have to worry about that part

@DoomsdaysCW , ‴️ did you see this one?
@gbargoud
I did not! TY, @n1vux !@gbargoud

Lots of cool stuff going on at #Principles! Bookmarking their events page to highlight on #SolarPunkSunday, @n1vux !

@gbargoud Based on my last visit to a #RepairCafe, bring a phone with a translation app. I got some good advice from a man who spoke only Mongolian; the phone was really helpful.
@gbargoud this is so rad. Now I want to start something like this where I live. But first I’ll see if one already exists.

@markwyner

I saw 2 other people on here doing it and it looked like fun

@gbargoud this is such a pleasing flyer
