In #autopoiesis, the self-forming of a barrier between the #system & the outside world is required. This model has been expanded into other areas outside of Life. Technically, this requirement is a #Universal: to exist, there must be a clear demarcation between the object & "not-the-object."

The latter view goes back over 2500 yrs to the earliest written records of ancient civilizations. There are, ofc, different names for this all the way through. The modern task is never just to produce new publications; we need to be refining #knowledge & presenting concise forms that everyone gets.
