Errr, DB, how do you even calculate this one?

Public transport in Luxembourg is FREE

And Troisvierges and Luxembourg are both, errr, in Luxembourg 🤯

@jon 27€ DB Consulting Fee.
@jon they're doing it out of spite, because you didn't choose "show our best prices"? 🤔

@jon

"Ihre Fahrkarte gilt am angegebenen Geltungstag bis 03:00 Uhr des Folgetages im Saarland in RE, RB, in Rheinland-Pfalz auf einzelnen Strecken in RE, RB, in Luxemburg und Lothringen in allen Zügen außer ICE und TGV."

On the Monday after you can't get a Preisauskunft...

@knud What? So it is trying to sell me a regional pass, for a place I don't need one? 🤣

@jon

Yes. "Would you like to purchase an Interrail pass for your trip between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden?"

@jon

I think the system doesn't know the concept of "does not need a ticket", so it searches for a ticket, and the cheapest, which apparently only even exists on weekends.

@jon old fare data?
@technicalotter See the reply from @knud - it defaults to the price for a regional pass. Which is confusing to say the least!
@jon I’m not saying this is entirely helpful, but: https://www.bahn.de/angebot/regio/saarland/saar-lor-lux-ticket

@stefanlindbohm Yes it is that causing it.
@stefanlindbohm @jon Looks like Railfinder is offering a first class supplement as the ticket. You probably need one more exception …

@partim @jon Oh, look at that. Thanks for pointing it out!

I’ll be able to solve that along with our Interrail reservation feature once we get to that (same basic idea: travel is free with optional purchases available). Will keep in mind and fix when that’s in place!

@jon pretty sure the only ticket the DB knows about for this is the Saar-Lor-Lux ticket (a ticket obscure enough the Wikipedia page still prices it in Marks) and is simply not aware of the “ticket” known as free travel
Probably Saar-Lor-Lux yes. CFL no longer publishes any TCV whatsoever.

@q @jon This makes me think that Luxembourg should actually issue a 0 € ticket so that journey planners can calculate the total cost of travelling via Luxembourg.

Could anyone point me to the standard (I hope there is one) for expressing ticket validity digitally please?

@jon I checked some dates, up to 30.04, no price information available, from 01.05 it's 27 Euro.

It looks like the DB app/website can't deal with free trains. Maybe someone has to manually enter something to make it work and does it for an x amount of months in advance?

@Momo1435 @jon I have to suspect someone coded it up to assume that a zero price was "falsy" and indicates a lack of data, so it goes searching for a non-"missing" price.

Such are the original sins of software "engineering" 😭

@Momo1435 @jon for me it looks more like this works on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays but not on any other days
@jon "show our best prices" is off. Would that change anything if you turn it on? 😂
