The problem those arguing for a 'revival' of Centerism have (this morning Phillip Collins/Observer) is that they draw centrism wide enough to draw in Blairs' Labour & Cameron's Tories.

If that's the liberal centre then its been in power for decades & got us to the stagnating, unequal, failing juncture we have reached.... why would anyone think they now have the answers (other than their feeling of entitlement to govern?) as the are worried less by Reform than the Greens?

@ChrisMayLA6 Centrism is all about maintenance, be that keeping things steady for the unconcerned middle or the power structures that enable them to remain unconcerned at the cost of others. A fantasy perception of the world in a way but generally will treat any progressivism as an existential threat to the balance but fine with the sugared words of someone with a nice suit.

@nini

Yes, but also I noted earlier in this thread, centrists have a profound lack of interest in how the current settlement was engineered (to advantage the political class) and this is their achilles heel (well one of a number really)

@ChrisMayLA6 They have no reason to be concerned though, the pride of the centrist is to not ask why but only to ask if it complies with the status quo.

@nini

Indeed, but it also means they can struggle to defend that position as they seem unwilling to acknowledge history (or politics for that matter)
