🧵The narrative set-up of RE9 for RE10 is actually so good, I think. In the beginning we get what seems to be Leon's usual song and dance; save the girl, end the BOW's. But when you include Sherry being his handler, Zeno a presumable "imitation" of Wesker, the Hound Wolf Squad, and a Chris mention... We can only conclude that RE10 is getting the band back together for one final mission to take down Umbrella/adjacent BOW organizations.

Meaning, I think in RE10 we'll be seeing not only Leon and Sherry, but Chris, Claire, and possibly Jill along with the HWS. Who their main adversary would be, I'm not so sure of yet.

The pacing of RE9 is really interesting to me as well. This isn't the first time we've had 2 POV's in a Resident Evil game, by far. What makes this game different from the rest, is Grace. Grace is essentially a civilian, she's terrified, traumatized, and tenacious. Her sections, in the first half of the game, are much longer than Leon's, to the point where I've seen several people express that they thought Leon wouldn't be around for the whole game.

This pacing is obviously to set up her story and build her character; in the second half of the game though, there is a reversal, and Leon's sections are much longer than Grace's. What with the spider fight, getting all the components for the detonator, moving through RPD with the Tyrant, scaling the toppled buildings, the sky lift, the bike chase, the killer plant... I'm probably missing some things.

Anyway, the point is, that this second half of Leon's POV at least seems even longer than Grace's in the beginning. I've seen people say that it all felt so extra and unnecessary, that after awhile they just wanted to move on.
It's all for the exposition though. This slow, almost dragging pace, is being used to walk through the past and build tension. Leon's first day of the rest of his life was in Raccoon City, his regrets, guilt, and reason to live are there.

This isn't something to be rushed through, despite there being a ticking clock on the man's life. We're in Raccoon City to reintroduce the beginning of Umbrella, of Claire, of Chris, of Jill, of Rebecca, of Leon and so many others. Because what happens at the end of RE9 is setting the stage for RE10, that's just storytelling, but we see Leon ready to die with Grace when Ark collapses, despite being cured, Leon is tired.

After being rescued there's mention of Chris from Sherry, with Leon stating that he's sure he'll see him soon.
The stage has been set for something big and painful. And I frankly can't wait to see it.

Oh my god, to not even mention the choice Grace, we the players, have to make that results in Leon's death or cure. I think CapCom made an incredibly smart move here; shoot Leon in the head as a "bad ending", nothing that's truly canon with consequences... Yet. CapCom, I believe, is testing the waters for something painful with lasting effects on the story.
