I had a peer tell me he didn't understand why I had morals or how I knew to treat people correctly if I wasn't religious and didn't fear divine retribution.

Oh my god, to not even mention the choice Grace, we the players, have to make that results in Leon's death or cure. I think CapCom made an incredibly smart move here; shoot Leon in the head as a "bad ending", nothing that's truly canon with consequences... Yet. CapCom, I believe, is testing the waters for something painful with lasting effects on the story.
Ain't nobody gonna read all that but I had fun writing it.
After being rescued there's mention of Chris from Sherry, with Leon stating that he's sure he'll see him soon.
The stage has been set for something big and painful. And I frankly can't wait to see it.
This isn't something to be rushed through, despite there being a ticking clock on the man's life. We're in Raccoon City to reintroduce the beginning of Umbrella, of Claire, of Chris, of Jill, of Rebecca, of Leon and so many others. Because what happens at the end of RE9 is setting the stage for RE10, that's just storytelling, but we see Leon ready to die with Grace when Ark collapses, despite being cured, Leon is tired.
