Ran into this little guy on the way home. It scuttled over to block my path, stared at me for a moment, then pounced a tiny worm. Then just sat there and let me take photos of it really close.

Cute (and mildly venomous)! Used to see those guys when we lived in Fremont but only see salamanders in Berkeley.

apparently their blood contains a protein that kills the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, reducing the spread from ticks. That awesome.
