Lots of conversations recently about planting more veg this year to donate, like Plant a Row for the Hungry, as prices rise and the economy goes to 💩, etc.

What vegetables would you focus on for this?

@docdieterlen If you want to give away a lot of food, maybe zucchini. Those are prolific. Herbs are also prolific, and are a lot of bang for the buck. Expensive to buy, but easy to give away once they’re established.
@docdieterlen Our scout troop is doing this. We contacted the local food pantry where we will donate the food for suggestions on what is most wanted and what they can make use of easiest. If you can, I’d suggest an asking before planting to make sure you are growing what can be used in your area.
@IcooIey great idea, and a great project for a scout troop! Last year the local pantry graciously took my glut of little Japanese eggplants (variety Millionaire), but I assume they'd rather have something else 😂
@docdieterlen I would prioritize calories. Most calories in a small space in a home garden? Potatoes and dry beans.
@beandreams Potatoes seem like a good choice to me, too, although I've never tried growing them here. You can get a good yield on them in a smaller space, too.
