Current events reviberate through our daily existence and bring past atrocities home even here in the middle of nowhere.
Every military conflict for the past thirty years brings my husband's Vietnam experience home to roost.
Again and again.
Robert Mueller's death and mention of his bronze star only adds to the memories of his own service.
I listen because I hope it helps.
He was just a kid when he was in uniform but it feels like yesterday to both of us. His two bronze stars sit in a drawer with all of his other commendations.
He worries about everyone in harms way and wonders why Congress allows this immediate travesty. Why don't they care about the human toll? On all sides.
The right or the wrong of the politics doesn't matter almost sixty years later. My husband's two tours never really ended but extend to the right here and right now.
The waging of war demands a price.
We will keep paying because we never learn.
@NorcalGma2 Thanks for sharing this.
@NorcalGma2 I think my dad’s experiences as a 20-year-old on Okinawa never left him, I’m convinced they shortened his life. He did his best to walk away from it, and he accomplished a lot, but it shaped the rest of his life. He didn’t encourage my brother and me to serve.
@GPJohnston
My husband hasn't encouraged our grandsons to serve either. At least not in the military.
@NorcalGma2 Thank you so much for your thoughts and about your husband. Thank you both for your service and sacrifice. I was too young to serve but well old enough know people who lost parents and siblings in combat. My Dad also served during VN. The scars of war don’t go away and the regime has failed the lesson from VN: You can’t fight a war without popular support.
@NorcalGma2 ❤️
Thank you for sharing. That you listen is so important.
@NorcalGma2 Please tell Norcal Gpa 2 that we said Thank You and Welcome Home.
@NorcalGma2 it is really tragic that as a country we keep sending mostly young people into wars, both creating and experiencing harm, and then largely abandon them to their suffering if they survive at all. 💔

@NorcalGma2 "We will keep paying because we never learn."

This made me think of this song:

@NorcalGma2 Impressed and touched by your story, thanks for sharing. So sorry your husband has to live through all of these horrors again and again, but I am sure it helps he’s got someone listening 🙏

“He worries about everyone in harms way” 😌
It’s all so useless. Why can’t we just do that by default?
