🐿️gamedev is funny because it's like "how do I make the treasure chests work?" and the answer seems to be "make it a sort of NPC"
🐿️not the weirdest thing we've made NPCs though, in shield cat we had invisible event triggers here and there and those were NPCs. the secret spots where you could find a stash of cash were NPCs. checks that happened when you entered certain rooms were NPCs. why make a new system when you do this?

@hy @roxy Some bethesda games have done the reverse as well: Skyrim's merchant NPCs often have access to invisible chests they can access so they can sell loot without carrying it, or the algorithm that decides what the NPC is doing equipping it.
@roxy  everything's a sort of NPC, unless they're a sort of bullet. or something, there's a Calvin meme in there somewhere
@roxy Super Mario Galaxy handled this by simply making the signs actually characters.
