I hate that the framing is "people forgot about covid" and not "the rich and powerful successfully waged a PR campaign to make the public forget about covid."

if people stopped giving all these corporations their age or id/kyc info and just canceled their subscriptions or accounts for 4 months we'd see how fast they stop asking once those next quarter results show up.

governments would wake up pretty fast with less VAT, GST, and Tax revenue, too. you give them an inch and they will take a mile. cut that inch and cut their source of revenue, and they will all fall in line.

that is the only solution to all these stupid laws.

So, again, these age verification laws aren't about children.

They aren't about protecting children.

They aren't about children on social media.

They are about surveillance, control, and abuse.

If we wanted to make social media safer for children, we would pass legislation that actually addressed the way commercial social media is harmful to everyone: limiting notification frequency, mandating interop and data export-ability, preventing surveillance driven advertising models, mandating algorithmic transparency, and enforcing anti-trust against companies like Meta who buy up all their competitors and unify them.

I am so angry and disappointed at all the left- and center-wing commentators who bought into the right-wing framing of "parent's rights" as being more important than children's rights.

Like, I'm sorry, but parents have *responsibilities to* kids, not *rights over* kids. Kids aren't property, they're living, breathing *people* who deserve care and love and privacy and dignity.

The one straightforward and extremely well-documented fact about kid's safety on the internet:

The *overwhelming* majority of child sexual predators, in the high 90s percent-wise, are right in your community. They're not on the Internet. They're at your church, your school, your kid's clubs, your sports activities, and -- sadly -- your family gatherings.

Whatever else age verification is, it's not got anything to do with protecting children.

If AI was genuinely useful your employees would choose to use it, you wouldn't have to mandate its use.

"For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes. But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere. 'Blessed are the merciful' in a courtroom? 'Blessed are the peacemakers' in the Pentagon? Give me a break!"

Why is Mastodon the best social medium in 2026?

Picture 1: If I share a post with some objectively good news, it gets 97 boosts and 140 likes.

Picture 2: If I share the same post on Threads, it gets zero interactions — zero! — because it contains a link to the competing social medium YouTube, and on Threads, Mark Zuckerberg has decided that the algorithm should not promote such content.

Threads is where the rich decide what we can talk about.

On Mastodon, we decide.

AI Use Appears to Have a “Boiling Frog” Effect on Human Cognition, New Study Warns

"In a new study, researchers claim to provide the first causal evidence that leaning on AI to assist with “reasoning-intensive” cognitive labor — mental tasks ranging from writing to studying to coding to simply brainstorming new ideas — can rapidly impair users’ intellectual ability and willingness to persist despite difficulty."

If you feel that this is antisemitism, then kindly unfollow me, because you don't want anything to do with me. No discussion, just leave, okay?
It does go to show, however, how cunningly the Netanyahu rogue regime has weaponized our fear of being branded an antisemite. Too few people have as yet figured that out.
