Ever since the Monkey Cage betrayal and debacle , I’ve realised that maintaining my tenacity and having some confidence in the future has required even more teeth gritting. Self belief is a precarious notion. When it slips out of your hands it really can fall a long way down into the stinky water of the well.
@robinince i've found that even if you don't believe, acting like you do helps a bit.

@robinince

There's a certain amount of arrogance required to be alive. I'm oft reminded of how much we need to forget in order to believe what we believe and live in a functioning way and that in itself requires one to decide what is important and what is not.

@robinince know that many many people think that you are most excellent.
@robinince Three cheers for tenacity and self confidence even if it comes through gritted teeth. πŸ‘

@robinince I have only heard and read your voice but it's a voice I both trust and believe in and I believe I stand with so many others who are prepared to give their belief in you when your own falters.

Stay the course. You are not alone.

@robinince Hang in there, gritted teeth or not. Remember you are, in fact, one of the good ones. πŸ‘

@robinince certainly in these times, where media, 'news' and rich billionaires gaslights everyone that they are 'wrong' about the most basic things again and again, it is hard to retain your sense of self and belief system.

I wish I had the answer..but my confidence went years ago and still trying to locate it. And all this stuff *waves hands around* isn't helping.

Where folks are telling me to engage more with people and society that constantly tells me I am broken or weird or wrong? To simultaneously be my 'authentic self' but also 'not like that...don't be too autistic or too queer or too trans, tidy up your space and present this fake image cos otherwise you scare the horses and look homeless'.

I am confused at all these mixed messages, for sure.

@robinince that's because there's a lot of arseholes out there who are embarrassed by your growth and principles and joy, and would rather do everything in their power to drag you down to their level, than make the effort to better themselves.
@robinince Even if we can't fix it, people on here can take your mind off it! I'm having a very bad 18 months and Mastadon is a welcome distraction. I have lots of filters to filter out anything I don't want to see, and I follow lots of people with similar interests. It doesn't fix the outside world but having tiny friends in my pocket is definitely a positive in what is quite a stressful time. Hope you're okay. You're great- we all know this. We just might not remember to say it very often.
@robinince
I am glad to see you are still here!
