I never owned a TV and just want to stream and game
I'm also considering building a Linux TV thing (with #kodi?).
Is there a specific tech that's worth buying? Are there brands to avoid?
Are there dumb TV at all?
Please enlighten me

@the_grue @openmastering Yep, that's a good way to keep control of what's on the telly. An RF remote control makes it quite convenient, and uses a USB dongle for the Kodi host. I've used a Raspberry Pi but they can be underpowered. Mini PCs from corporate/government computer refurb companies work well tooβHP, Dell, Lenovo and Acer make them.
Plugging a laptop in and streaming off it works pretty well too.
@openmastering @the_grue 4K would depend on the age of the PC, or would need RPi4 or 5. Best check on forums for that.
The RF remote and dongle is a convenient way of controlling Kodi. I found one online (AliExp most likely) that looks like a normal remote on the front and has a mini keyboard on the back. This is what I have: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/3353124/Rii-Mx3.html#manual
