MaxNicholsWell, I hadn't been super public about where I worked because I wanted to keep my social media presence separate from my job, but I can finally reveal... I have been working for Epic for the past year and change!
Unfortunately, I was laid off today.
I was a Senior Technical Designer working on the "OG Fortnite" mode. The first 8 months or so were as an IC, the last 6 I was nominally the gameplay/tech design lead for that product.
Our mode had more players than most full games! I was doing lead work. They were really getting a cheap deal there.
I did not particularly love the company or the work I was doing. But uh, this isn't quite the way I hoped to leave.

I love Fortnite, and enjoyed OG. But between this and other recent dick moves, I’m not planning on playing anymore ☹️

Mary Williams@Maxnichols I'm so sorry. Getting laid off sucks even if it was a job you didn't particularly like, and the ensuing chaos of finding another job/moving only makes things worse. Crossing my fingers that you land on your feet and hit the ground running again soon -- or else get the chance to take a much-needed break if you can!
