I have achieved an insight into #ADHD. I need things to schedule *around* in order to have a day that isn't just me wondering what I'm supposed to do, minute to minute.

I think I "need" to take out the recycling in the morning or else I'll do nothing until lunch.

I think I "need" to go swimming in the late afternoon in order to get anything done after lunch.

This could be a really effective hack IF I can schedule and then DO those things.

Hm!

So like time anchors, or activity anchors, something like that? (Just coming up with a term for it.) I'm also picturing something to do with gravity (like moons around planets), but can't think of a good way of putting it...

For me, I'm autistic as well as ADHD, so my routines seem to serve this purpose. But if those get interfered with, I feel very similar to what you described, I don't know what to do with myself (and am generally pretty cranky about it, if it's my morning routine).

@murdoc I like the gravity metaphor! That's perfect. It gives you something to rotate around and then launch from.
