Following on from the “raw milk” trend, I wonder if any other inadvisable things from the past will catch on. Like lead poisoning.

Add some laudanum to your diet, our research recommends it if you want a plum bum

@mattgrayyes and now I have the phrase “plumb plum plumbum bum” in my head…
@mattgrayyes wanna have a sweetened drink without the calories? Lead might be for you 🙃
@mattgrayyes  tetraethyl lead

@kuriko @mattgrayyes A fun* fact: Thomas Midgley Jr, who played a key role in the development of leaded petrol, then went on to create some of the first CFCs. It's been posited that he may be the single organism in history to cause the most environmental harm. After contracting polio, he designed a series of ropes to lift himself out of bed which he got entangled in and died.
@als @mattgrayyes @kuriko @patterfloof another fun fact is the tech diffs have a citation needed episode on him
@chloeraccoon @patterfloof @mattgrayyes @kuriko ah, that'll be how I first heard of this!

@kuriko @mattgrayyes ah, lead. It's in my coffee :P

Old house, so some of the last bits of pipe into the house are lead, but water board puts some additive in the water to help

@mattgrayyes

Deadly Nightshade can make your "eyes bright" hence its other name "belladonna."

@mattgrayyes I'm gonna go for a leeching later
@mattgrayyes If you've played "Thank Goodness You're Here", there's a street preacher saying we should bring back asbestos. I think it's a parody of the anti-vax street preachers who are still somewhat prevalent
@als @mattgrayyes And if you haven't played Thank Goodness You're Here, go play Thank Goodness You're Here, film yourself playing it and put it on YouTube 😁
@mattgrayyes yeah, I'd like a plum plumb plumbum bum 😂
@drchaos @mattgrayyes it was said with such aplomb

@mattgrayyes I swear one of our far-right parties had "legalise asbestos" on elction posters, can't find it because they've chosen a common enough political word for their name

instead, there's a national chain called Pound Bakery, who's logo on all their shops is "Pb"

@patterfloof @mattgrayyes I remember seeing a full page ad in a magazine back in the mid seventies, from the associated octel corporation advocating leaded petrol and various other products on the grounds that leaded fuels helped us win WW2. So we should continue using it out of gratitude for saving us from Hitler I guess.

@patterfloof

There was a suggestion that the White House Chaos Generator woul reverse a planned ban on asbestos:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/epa-asbestos-ban-trump-b2771679.html

But that review was eventually cancelled.

@mattgrayyes

Cancer-causing asbestos has been regulated for decades and removed from buildings. Trump could allow one form to return

Exposure to any type of asbestos is known to cause cancer and it is linked to tens of thousands of deaths in the U.S. each year

@mattgrayyes use arsenic in your mint drops, it adds a beautiful green colour! As Sir PTerry wrote, "they are to die for! (or maybe of, the handwriting is unclear)"
@drchaos @mattgrayyes a sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich? with arsenic sauce?
@mattgrayyes I'd argue authoritarianism is an inadvisable thing from the past...
@mattgrayyes The UK seems to be having another go at this putting the privy next to the well thing, but on a larger scale
@mattgrayyes not sure why but KFC won't let me have medium-rare these days
@mattgrayyes People are buying and selling cyanide containing "bitter almonds" as alternative medicine, yeahh
@mattgrayyes your post is particularly glorious if narrated in the voice of Cave Johnson https://youtu.be/NyLUU3O4zW8

@mattgrayyes Everything with radiation used to be all the rage.
