One and a half month ago, I wasn't sure which country would be the first for upcoming #streckensammeln, expecting it to be either Belgium or France or China. Then I got ill and plans were cancelled.

Since I am fully recovered, I expect I can tick off at least one new line in April, but which country will be the first? I am not sure yet. What do you guess?

The votes are somehow matching my own chance estimations, although. France/Belgium are the most likely options, but it depends on the work planning next week, for which I haven't yet seen the final schedule.
The winners seem to be those who voted for France, our train entered a sideline to turn around after 200m😂
@RensBloom What would be your aim? Belgium will be quick and easy. Germany will be long, but mostly easy as well. France will take lots of time as well as being difficult to cover due to miserable timetables.
China is massive and difficult to reach.
@wrzlbrnft Aim is collecting lines opportunistically when I am nearby anyways. For all 4 countries I have specific plans to go there (work, family visit, holidays), but for most of them I am not sure when (and plans might change). When I go to France, I might find a new line in Belgium.

@RensBloom In the beginnings of my European-wide journeys I focussed on betrayed lines and cross-border routes, as these are usually more endangered as internal lines.

In France there are quite some rural lines with uncertain future so I'd prefer to do these first.

@RensBloom In China ongoing high-speed expansions caused punctual closures of passenger traffic on parallel running conventional lines in the past.

I've spotted a few lines facing potential closures some months ago (although I don't have any official information if they're actually in danger). In many cases these would take some effort to reach them as they are in very remote areas.

@wrzlbrnft Closures always occur everywhere across the globe. My goal is not to collect as much as possible for a certain region/country, but on my travels I like to go to new places and go via new/alternative routes.

Positive note: in the past I have been to one place where no passengers were found anymore (Oskarshamn in Sweden). At that time I had to go by bus, but the passenger trains returned on the line a few years later.

@RensBloom And in the meantime passenger traffic to Oskarshamn has been closed again. 🥲
@wrzlbrnft Yes, unluckily it was not a sustainable reopening.
