apropos of, Gadi Eisenkot , centrist nationalist opposition candidate (Yashar) calling for Israel to commit even more war crimes:

——-

Northern Israel is abandoned and paralyzed under Hezbollah’s fire, a year since the war broke out at a heavy price and with IDF intelligence confirming the achievement of a ceasefire agreement with a terrorist organization — this is an additional deterioration that must not be accepted in any way or form!
The Dahiya Doctrine was never more relevant and it is an obligation to implement it.
Hundreds of rockets hitting northern residents for 12 days already are a reminder to the Israeli government that it is forbidden to end this campaign without dismantling and disarming Hezbollah’s terrorist organization — and it must be given full freedom of action for the IDF to do so.
Any outcome that leaves #Hezbollah operating in #Lebanon will be a severe blow and an unacceptable security burden on the country’s citizens and national resilience, for generations.
It is forbidden to miss this strategic opportunity.

Eisenkot is a former #IDF Chief of Staff and current opposition politician. The “Dahiya Doctrine” just to reiterate is a named Israeli military “strategy” involving deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure.

@oatmeal it's a pretext to take over Lebanon.

In the same way the Nazis used the excuse that "germans are being oppressed in the Sudetenland"

@burnoutqueen to be fair, I was surprised. I have a family member who’s a liberal and advises Eisenkot. Like I said, he’s centrist essentially and pragmatic, who supports the Oslo accords, the Protocol Concerning the Redeployment in Hebron,
and the so-called “two-state solution” delay tactic Europeans love to insist on its implementation. Separation seems to have always been a priority when it comes to the Palestinians, so Lebanon is not really something I assume he would want to pursue.
