Another discussion on biking with a skirt on (and tagged with #solarpunksunday ) brought back a vague memory that my mom had a crocheted skirt guard in her bike when I was little.

So, after some pondering, I of course had to search online is there patterns for skirt guards, or was it just a fashion phase. Turns out there is.

@lepaggoth tosiaan, olen kattellut uutta pyörää ja vähän semmoista retkeilyllisempää mallia, niin niihin ei tosiaan saa valmiina lisävarusteena hameverkkoja. kamoon nyt, kyllä pyörässä hameverkot pitää olla.

että jos en onnistu jostain vanhasta romusta siirtämään muovista hameverkkoa siihen, niin täytyy varmaan sitä varten opetella virkkaamaan

@Stoori Noita katsellessa käväisi kyllä mielessä, että pitääkö se virkkaaminenkin vielä opetella!

Ilmeisesti muovisia hameverkkoja saa kuitenkin ostaa joistain pyöräliikkeistä erikseen. Ja Etsyssä tuli vastaan joku, jolla oli myynnissä värikkäitä kankaasta ommeltuja suojuksia hameverkon tapaan.

Additional comment - when I was little, I thought the colorful crocheted thing was for guarding back-rack traveling children's feet, rather than skirts, from getting between the spokes. Now as I think of it, that protection might have relied more on psychology ("I don't want to kick this colorful thing my mom made with my muddy boots") than physical protection.

Apparently there's commercial plastic skirt guard nets available in some bike shops, but I leaned towards the cheerful creative options.

@pottenbakkerij_hoogland Wow, that's interesting! I noticed some of the widely available crochet patterns were originally dutch, and thought that it shows the dutch are known cyclists, but didn't know there's also longer traditions for it.
