little & broken but still good

one fun thing about being GenX is that I was in my 20s before I learned RPF existed. I'd shipped John Lennon & Paul McCartney in my head forever. Imagine Meilin from Turning Red except the Beatles instead of 4Town.

I sort of miss the heyday of Internet creativity in the 2000s. Once business corporations decided they should make money off of it, everything started to get more sanitized and streamlined. Social media became prominent and now it's...whatever it is now.

I keep thinking people should go back to making forums and blogs instead of relying on Reddit and Discord.

I say this, even as I have a personal domain and blog that I never update lol

@gallifreygal I've been reading up on the #IndieWeb and it's wild to me see that webrings and fanlistings are still active! It's true that forums as they used to be have really lost popularity though.

@gallifreygal Funnily enough, my experience with forums is a solid 99% French-speaking RP forums... and we still make these. I don't know if it's quite as active but it's still decently active, and the main hosting service is still the same as in the 2000s, my first forum is still online... And it's so culturally linked to RP that a few years ago the host wanted to change their ToS to sanitize everything (don't mention ~bad~ topics) and the whole RP community protested as a block because they wanted to be able to write about difficult topics in a fictional way, and the host dropped the change iirc!

So yeah, each time people say that forums are not used anymore I need to recalibrate to "not French RP forums, the other kinds" x'D
