I'm just going to say - don't give them the benefit of the doubt anymore.
Just ban GenAI entirely in your projects.
Do not underestimate what the players pushing these tools are trying to do in literally every single sphere of the tech space.
I pushed for less harsh policies in the past. All I can say is please, do not. It was a mistake. You cannot trust anyone who helps make these tools, do not - even for a second - underestimate the will power they have and will use to ruin. Please don't make the mistakes I made.
@Lyude What ... actually happened?
@aredridel I've said what I can say. only other thing I can say is leniant policies are not enough, you need to push people out of your community and keep them out.
@Lyude you're right, not just because of the practical issues (not knowing what your code does or even is, burn-out by reviewing the outputs, deskilling, etc...) but also because of the massive ethical, social and political issues

i would also say to reject it to stand in solidarity with other professions that are affected, like artists, writers, journalists, translators, etc

one silver lining here, if you can call it one, is that this makes it very clear who actually gives a shit and who doesn't... masks are off...

at least there are communities rejecting this technology. people who actually give a shit are banding together
@lumi @Lyude yo where do i go to band together with other people rejecting this technology?
@floatybirb @Lyude i should write something up for that, so we can all find eachother better

you can always look at my recent posts to see who reacts to my posts against genai to find people to follow

you can also have a look at the projects on
noai.starlightnet.work and join their community spaces
Starlight Network No-AI List

@lumi @Lyude cool I'll give it an examination later, after I am done watching a documentary about replica ship building.
