I've always used manual focus or "selection" autofocus on my camera. But we have these lovely black carpenter bees nectaring at the sweet peas, and I'd love to catch one in flight.

I'm much too slow for manual or selection focus here, and if I try to focus on a plane and wait for them it'll take weeks (there are too many flowers for them to choose from).

So for the first time I'm trying "dynamic area" autofocus...

The equipment *does* matter.

@Colman I have to say, it boggles my mind how good cameras and lenses are these days. I have a Nikon 28-300 “travel zoom” that’s better than many of the primes I started with in the 80s.
@angst_ridden yeah, even the mediocre Z lenses technically kick the ass of the older stuff.
