The fact that grandparents can sue for visitation with their grandkids in some provinces is absolutely fucked, to me. I imagine there are safeguards and, obviously, there are exceptions, but I'd argue there's generally a good reason when a parent doesn't want their own parents to have any contact with their children.
What’s fucked up about it is that is cast in the frame of ‘grandparent’s rights’, which like ‘parent’s rights’ are bullshit. No one should have rights over children; we are guardians and promoters of a child’s rights on their behalf, and only while they can’t themselves. Children may have opinions, we should listen unless we genuinely think harm will come to them.
