Republicans in Congress add $250 annual federal EV tax to transport bill
Five principles should determine how you fund transport, says Consumer Reports.

@arstechnica what amazing shitheads
@arstechnica FUCK YOU Republicans! I don’t appreciate being punished for making a smart choice for my current vehicle (and I already pay extra in my state)
@sfringer @arstechnica Ehhh OK hear me out. Yes fuck Republicans. BUT gas tax usually pays for road construction that even EV's use....at least until we get the hover car. So if EV's don't use gas, that money for construction products has to come from somewhere. HOWEVER. As the article makes it clear this had nothing to do with fair share. This is a Republican dick move who is actively hostel to EV's.
So on the surface....yes. But when 1 in 20 cars are EV's and the gas tax hasn't gone up since the 1990's the reason is obvious: Republicans are just fucking assholes.
@arstechnica Might as well start taxing people for having solar panels for their house or having a healthy BMI if we're going to punish people for everything Obama and his wife thought was a good idea.

@arstechnica This is…BS. I’m ok with replacing the lost gasoline taxes, but:

Fed gas taxes are $0.183/gallon. That's the equivalent of 1366 gallons of gas taxes for EVs. Assuming 30MPG, that’s equal to gas taxes for 41,000 miles of driving. I drove 7,000 miles last year.

I’ll be expecting a refund when we get these idiots out of office.

@arstechnica Sue. Restraint of trade, in violation of the Commerce Clause.
