3/10 from my series of 19th century photos

The most pristine group portrait I have, virtually everyone standing still, so no motion blur from the long exposure.

Two cuts of meat hanging from the doorway and the gents in the back wearing white aprons lead me to conclude these are the employees of a butcher shop. If I had to guess, based on the more urban setting, maybe this is Springfield, MA?

I'm assuming this is the proprietor of said establishment. Fully decked out in clothing that to my modern eyes looks like a caricature of a 19th century business owner: top hat, frock coat, bow tie, watch chain, handkerchief.

I'd like to think he came to work dressed like this every day, but I suspect he put on his finest duds for the photo.

@mvilain Absolutely, and it would stay there most of the time, actually wearing that thing seems very impractical.
