what are your favorite movies about aliens? especially lesser known ones.

From that list my faves are The Day the Earth Stood Still and the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers. A surprising omission is Liquid Sky, which I love so much and everyone should watch it!
As far as books go there are so many, but a couple that seem to be lesser known are The Sparrow and its sequel Children of God, both by Mary Doria Russell. Oh, also The Women Men Don't See by James Tiptree Jr. and The Word for World is Forest by Ursula K. Leguin.

@johnbrowntypeface Gosh I saw Liquid Sky when it came out.
A good space alien movie that's kind of obscure is The Borrower, about a space alien sent to live on earth as punishment.
