In the Mediterranean, France has boarded another shadow fleet vessel, the Deyna.

French President Macron:

“The war involving Iran will not deflect France from its support for Ukraine, where Russia’s war of aggression continues unabated.

These vessels, which evade international sanctions and violate the law of the sea, are profiteers of war. They line their pockets while helping finance Russia’s war effort.

We will not allow it.”

@randahl Can we use that oil too? Or France only seizes the vessels and escorts the somewhere?
@zbrando I do not know the details, but maybe someone from France could add more information here, if it has been mentioned in French media.

@randahl @zbrando The tanker was seized and diverted to the Fos-sur-Mer oil terminal (part of the Port of Marseille-Fos). An investigation is under way. In the meantime, the "Deyna" will be kept at the disposal of the public prosecutor's office.

Russia-linked tanker seized by France arrives in Marseille

French authorities in Marseille took control of an oil tanker suspected of sanctions busting on Monday after it arrived in the southern French port days after it was intercepted for being part of a "shadow fleet" used by Russia to export its oil.

The Local France
@zbrando @randahl Most likely not. Based on news about previous ships, legal justification is because of incorrect or missing registration, licences, insurances or whatever. So issue is tanker itself, not cargo.
@zbrando @randahl France tries to respect the law. In the case of previous seized cargos the national prosecutor required 150k euros fine and 1 year in jail for the captains
@randahl - Om with you 100% on this one as well.
@randahl Well done France, focus on Ukraine and not on Trump's war
