so my internet for the apartment is "300 Megabit download/30 Megabit upload for $30/month"

in reality, that's 120 Mb down/20 Mb up for $50 (somehow ok whatever)

i decide i want to upgrade the plan to "1000 Mb down/50 Mb up for $40", that is 600 Mb down/35 up for $60, probably

i log into the customer portal only to discover this is not something you can just press a button for, i have to call customer service???

i call customer service and they tell me the plan i want is $120, double the amount i'm expecting

i reel in shock because i really need this upgrade but holy shit

the customer service agent says he'll "go talk to his boss to see what he can do"(?)

he comes back and says he can offer me $90 (what is this, a skeezy car dealership??)

at this point money doesn't feel real anymore so i just go for it and ask for $80

he goes and comes back and says "well the plan was that i give you $120 and then $115 and then $110 and maybe $90 so I can't really go any lower"(wow this is bleak)

i bite the bullet and he starts tapping away at entering this in the system

but after 10 minutes he tells me the system won't let him enter that so he "went above and beyond" and set me up with the plan i wanted but for only $60(???)

i rejoice at this and thank him for his efforts and hang up

...and then remember that that $60 pretty much corresponds to the website's "$50" plan that i wanted in the first place

...so that means i sat on the phone for 45 minutes fighting the system with someone from the system to get outstanding service (i choose to believe) which just meant getting what was advertised rather than getting scammed into paying double what i was supposed to

with the way i laughed about this afterward, it's a surprise the neighbors didn't get me sent on a grippy sock vacation

this country will be my unraveling istg
